Friday Favorites {3/30/18}

Happy Friday!  Let me tell you, it's been a week.  Cooper has been sick, not sleeping well, and in lots of pain (which is exhausting for everyone), I had to fill out a police report for an extremely odd and upsetting incident that happened at work on Wednesday, we're slowly trying to pack up our house for the big movie, we're gearing up for state testing at school, we had a hiking field trip to Lula Lake today with 85 fifth graders, Cooper and I made our second trip of the week to the pediatrician this afternoon, and I'm just running on fumes.  I'm VERY ready for spring break next week!

We celebrated Easter with my family this past weekend, so we dyed our eggs early.  I bought a dozen per child, but of course, some cracked during the process.  We just used boiling water, vinegar, and normal food coloring, and our eggs turned out bright and vibrant.  I put them down on paper towels first to help them dry, and the colors bled some, so a lot of them look tie dyed.  They're cool!

Most of the time Cooper wants to be super involved with egg dying, but this year he wasn't as interested.  Clark was my big helper from start to finish.

We braved the cold and rainy weather Saturday to hit up the zoo.  We pretty much had the place to ourselves, so the boys had a great time running around.  I let Abel walk on his own, instead of taking a stroller, and he loved it!  Chattanooga has an awesome zoo!

We celebrated Easter with my family on Sunday, and the boys had a great time hunting eggs.  Abel was really into it this year, so it was fun to watch him run around.  One of the kids' favorite traditions is throwing the eggs down in the woods when they're done hunting, so they did that too.

Cooper is my artsy boy.  He's a very talented little artist, and I don't know where he gets that from.  I loved my art classes in high school and college, but I wasn't very good compared to others.  He would choose something involving art over sports any day, so he decided he wanted to take a break from playing soccer this spring.  He spends the vast majority of his free time drawing, so I wanted to find an art class to put him in for the summer.  We want to encourage them to pursue what they like and enjoy instead of forcing something on them, if that makes sense.  We had talked about putting him in  piano lessons, but he loves art so much, we went in that direction.  I turned to my trusty Facebook friends for recommendations, and they followed through!  We found a local one that is a great price per month, so he starts April 30th!  He's so excited about it.

It's been a good week for cuddling with all my men!

Andy and I had another date night Saturday, and I didn't take a picture of this one either.  We ate dinner at Cheddar's and then headed to Ashley Furniture to look around for the new house.  We've had our living room couches since before we got married, so to say they've had it is an understatement.  They'll be going up in the bonus/playroom at the new house.  We bought our bedroom furniture there, and we've been really happy with it.  We walked in and a wonderful salesman helped us out, and we ended up buying a beautiful sectional and ottoman for the new house.  It was so comfortable!  It'll be a week or so after we move in before it's delivered, but I'm really excited!  We just got the couch and ottoman... not all the other bling in the picture.  ðŸ˜‰  I haven't got any throw pillows yet... I think I'm going to wait until we've settled on decor and paint colors before I buy those.

We took our 5th grade class to Lula Lake today.  To be honest, I wasn't excited about taking 85 kiddos hiking on the side of the mountain, but they were great!  There was a ton of water in the falls due to all the rain we've had, so it was a great day for it.  We hiked over 4 miles, so we wore them out!

I finished season 4 of Gilmore Girls this week!  I loved it!  I'm almost afraid to see what happens next!

The Easter Bunny got his work done early!  He's ready for Sunday!  ðŸ˜‰

Happy Easter weekend, friends!  I hope you have a great one!

The Boys' Easter Baskets

Since we're celebrating a risen savior this Sunday, I thought I'd share the boys' Easter baskets with you.  Since Easter is a religious holiday, and we celebrate it as such, I've never been one to put a lot of emphasis on Easter baskets.  I know several people who really go all out on baskets and gifts, but that's never been my style.  I do like to get the boys a little something special, so here's what I got them this year.

Abel

Abe's Easter basket is filled with candy, a movie, and a book.  I don't like to buy cheap toys that will get thrown away, so I typically stick with a movie and book.  The boys watch a lot of movies in the van, so I got his current favorite, Curious George.  We have lots of George DVDs, so I bought season 7.  He's also really into Peppa Pig right now, so I got him a book at our school book fair this week.  He loves anything chocolate, so I kept it simple with his candy.  All of my boys love bubbles, so I got Easter bunny bubbles in the Target Dollar Spot.

 Cooper

Cooper is different from the other boys in the fact that he doesn't like candy, so his Easter basket looks a little different.  He's a salty guy, so I got him some chips and Goldfish.  He loves to read, so I got him a Magic School Bus Rides Again book at our school book fair.  He loves Disney movies, and really loved Coco, so that's the movie he got.  Since I didn't get him a chocolate cross, I found a little art portfolio in the Target Dollar Spot to put in place of that.

Clark

Clark loves sweets, so filling his basket with candy was easy.  As long as it has sugar, he'll eat it.  He loves PJ Mask, so I got him one of those books at the book fair.  He recently watched the Bee Movie at school, so he specifically requested the Easter Bunny bring that in his basket.

Happy Easter, friends!

What's Up Wednesday {3/28/18}

1.  What we're eating this week:

I've been a horrible homemaker this week... I didn't plan a single meal for the week!  I've cooked every night so far, but nothing has been planned.  We ate ham and macaroni Monday, tacos last night, and I'm hoping Andy will make his famous homemade pizza tonight for dinner.  Friday and Saturday we have plans, and Sunday's Easter, so that just leaves me with figuring something out for tomorrow.

2.  What I'm reminiscing about:

I'm reminiscing about all the special times we've had in our house.  We're set to move two weeks from today, so I've been doing a lot of reflecting on our time there.  Cooper had his first birthday in that house, and we brought Clark and Abel home from the hospital to that house.  I'm going to miss it!

3.  What I'm loving:

I'm loving YouTube TV!  We've been very happy with the switch from Hulu Live.

4.  What we've been up to:

We celebrated Easter with my family this past weekend, I've been taking a lot of pictures, we're getting the house ready to pack up, and we've been getting things ready/shopping for the new house.    We've been a bit all over the place lately!

5.  What I'm dreading:

I'm really dreading packing and moving.  Andy and I are the opposite of hoarders, but we've still managed to accumulate a lot of stuff in the last 6.5 years.  I don't want to go through it all and figure out where to put it until we move, and then figure out where to put it in the new house.  I'd really like to get rid of all of my furniture and start over at the new house. 😂

6.  What I'm working on:

Sorry to sound like a broken record, but I'm working on packing.  I'm trying to box up pictures and decor right now, and we'll start on more stuff next week during spring break.  Fun way to spend our vacation time, huh?

7.  What I'm excited about:

Spring break!  We don't have any grand plans, but I'm looking forward to some time off of school.  We're going to work on knocking out our spring bucket list!

8.  What I'm watching/reading:

I'm currently still making my way through Gilmore Girls.  I've got one more episode of season four to finish, and then I'm hoping to binge watch as much of season 5 as I can during spring break!

I'm also watching the last few episodes of Fixer Upper.  I can't believe there's only one episode left!  I'm all caught up, so I'm sure I'll cry when it goes off next week... I love that show so much!

I'm currently reading The Child, and I just haven't gotten into yet.  I'm not even 100 pages in yet, so I'm sure it'll pick up.

9.  What I'm listening to:

I've been listening to a lot of NeedtoBreathe lately!  I love their new single, and my best friend and I are buying our concert tickets Friday!  We'll be seeing them in August!

10.  What I'm wearing:

I've been wearing a lot of winter clothes still because our spring weather has been less than stellar.  I've been living in sweatshirts at home... they are so comfy!  Here's a look at some of my most recent outfits.

11.  What I'm doing this weekend:

We've got Easter plans on the agenda!  The big boys are old enough to understand the meaning of Easter, so it's been a blessing to hear their questions this year.

12.  What I'm looking forward to next month:

Moving!  I'm really excited to get into our new house.  I love it, and I can't wait to make it our own.  As silly as this sounds, our new neighborhood has sidewalks, and I can't wait to use them.  ðŸ˜‚  Our current one doesn't, and it's made for some dangerous evenings of walking Bear.

13.  What else is new:

Not much else is new in our neck of the woods.  Cooper had to go to the doctor on Monday, and we saw a new pediatrician in our group.  Our old faithful doctor, Dr. Meredith, has Mondays off, so I requested to see Dr. Trey Dyer.  I had seen him before with Abel and Clark, and I really liked him.  The boys liked him too.  He was extremely thorough with both boys, and I think that has to do with his age.  He's my age (I'd say within a year or two), so he's young for a doctor.  I don't think he wants to miss anything in his diagnoses, so I really appreciate that as a mom.   Well, Cooper had some odd things going on at his appointment Monday, and instead of brushing us off with some bogus diagnosis, he called in an older doctor to help him.  We were there an hour and he never rushed us or tried to speed the appointment up.  Cooper isn't comfortable around just anyone, and he was completely at ease for just meeting him.  Y'all, I couldn't have left there happier with how Dr. Dyer handled it.  We got the right treatment and course of action for Cooper, and I got even more reassurance in how much I like him.  He even called me personally today to see how Cooper is doing.  I'm telling you - that thrilled my soul.  Dr. Meredith has called me before on several occasions, but I know that's not your typical practice for a doctor.  I wasn't expecting his call at all, but I was so happy he checked in.  I got to talk to him about some issues Coop's still having, and we made a game plan for the rest of the week.  Dr. Meredith is very near retirement age, and Dr. Dyer 110% solidified that he will be our new doctor whenever Dr. Meredith hangs it up.  Dr. Meredith will always be my #1 guy, but if you're looking for a new, young pediatrician who will be working for awhile, Dr. Dyer is your man.  A lot of times Dr. Meredith is out of the office, so he's definitely our backup now.
